Red Letters – A Cure for Anxiety

July 20, 2025
Tyler Lynde
Tyler Lynde explores Matthew 6:25-34, showing why anxiety is unnecessary, unfruitful, and unbecoming for God’s children. Learn to replace worry with trust by seeking the kingdom first and living one day at a time in the Father’s perfect love.

Fear seldom kicks down the door; it creeps in as a whisper— What if God forgets me? —then multiplies until it steals sleep, joy, and purpose. In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus meets that whisper head-on, offering both diagnosis and cure: anxiety thrives where trust in the Father’s love has withered. Pastor Tyler Lynde walks us through three reasons worry is wholly unworthy of a disciple and one radical way to displace it.

Worry is unnecessary. Birds neither budget nor barn-storm, yet they never miss a meal. Wildflowers outshine Solomon without one trip to the tailor. If God delights in feeding feathers and dressing grass, Tyler asks, why doubt His commitment to sons and daughters bought with Christ’s blood?

Worry is unfruitful. Stress feels busy, but Jesus’ question is devastating: Can it add a single hour to your life? Modern science echoes His verdict—chronic anxiety shortens lifespan, frays relationships, and muddies decision-making. It is motion without progress.

Worry is unbecoming. Jesus says raw panic over food, drink, and clothing marks those who do not know the Father. When believers live like orphans, we broadcast a damaging lie about God’s character. The root problem isn’t poor time-management but “little faith” in lavish love (1 John 3:1).

So what’s the cure? Live like loved children. “Seek first the kingdom … and all these things will be added.” Kingdom-first living is not escapism; it is deliberate, present-tense trust. Tyler offers three practices:
1. Morning exchange: before news or notifications, hand every concern to the Father who already “knows you need them.”
2. Daily window: pause at lunch to watch a bird or blossom and let creation preach God’s faithfulness.
3. One-day focus: plan responsibly, but refuse tomorrow’s terrors an early lease on today.

First John 4 reminds us that “perfect love casts out fear.” As we live the gospel— the Father gave His only Son to adopt us— anxiety’s volume drops. Fear may whisper again, but love answers louder: Your Father cares; breathe free.
