Can We Talk? Truth + Love
Welcome to the first week of our new sermon series, “Can We Talk? Addressing The Uncomfortable.” In his latest sermon, Pastor Tyler Lynde tackles the hard-hitting subject of “Can We Talk? Truth + Love.” Tyler brings light to the confusing maze that our culture has made of the concept of truth. Rooted in scripture and using real-world examples, he offers a way forward for anyone struggling with how to define truth in today’s society.
Drawing inspiration from 2 Corinthians 4:1-7, Tyler emphasizes the significance of humility in our approach to the truth. He cautions against employing deceitful tactics, reminding us that trickery is the weapon of the enemy, not a tool for believers. Our real battle is not against people but against spiritual forces (Eph. 6:12). He brings attention to the clear choice we have in choosing our spiritual father: one of life and light or one of deceit and darkness. In dissecting what culture tells us about truth—from the denial of absolute truth to the peril of ‘my truth’—Tyler exposes the fallacies that are so prevalent today. He counters these with what God says, affirming that absolute truth exists in the person of Jesus Christ and the scripture He inspired. Tyler underscores the incredible freedom and love available to us when we align ourselves with the truth (John 8:31-32).
Towards the end, he equips us with practical steps on how to talk about the truth with others, emphasizing the role of personal testimony and the Holy Spirit. Conversations about truth, Tyler advises, must always be rooted in love and humility. The goal is not to win arguments but to reveal the light of truth to others.
