In today’s fast-paced world filled with constant noise and distractions, the ability to hear God’s voice often seems elusive. Yet, this is a yearning shared by many who seek a deeper connection with the divine. In the latest message from our “Encounter” series, Pastor Tyler Lynde delves into the profound topic of discerning God’s communication in our daily lives. He explores how God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit and offers guidance on how we can tune into His voice amidst the chaos that surrounds us.

Tyler begins by reminding us that Christians have the inherent ability to hear and obey the voice of God. This is not a distant or unattainable goal but a fundamental aspect of our relationship with Him. The first experience of mankind was to hear God’s voice, as depicted in Genesis 1:26-28, where God speaks directly to man, giving them dominion over the earth and blessing them to be fruitful and multiply. This direct communication signifies the intimate relationship that God desires to have with us.

However, sin introduced separation between God and man. Colossians 1:21 explains that we were once far away from God, separated by our evil thoughts and actions. But the good news is that Jesus has repaired this broken relationship through His death and resurrection. Colossians 1:22 reassures us that we are now reconciled to God, standing before Him holy and blameless. This restoration opens the door for us to hear God’s voice once again.

Tyler emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit as an active guide in our lives. Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth who would guide us into all truth (John 16:12-14). The Holy Spirit communicates God’s will, helping us navigate our spiritual journey and deepening our connection with Him. The first truth the Holy Spirit speaks to us is our desperate need for salvation, highlighting the importance of recognizing our dependence on God’s grace.

One of the key insights Tyler shares is the diverse ways in which God communicates with us. He doesn’t limit Himself to a single method but speaks through scripture, sound biblical teaching, others, and supernatural means like dreams, visions, and miraculous signs. Tyler references Hebrews 4:12, noting that the Word of God is living and active, capable of discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. This underscores the importance of engaging with scripture as a primary way to hear God’s voice.

Tyler shares personal stories and biblical examples to illustrate these concepts. He reflects on the experiences of Elijah and Samuel, two figures who encountered God’s voice in unique ways. Elijah’s story, found in 1 Kings 19:9-13, teaches us about the importance of recognizing God’s voice in the stillness—a gentle whisper amidst the chaos. Despite windstorms, earthquakes, and fire, it was the quiet voice that carried God’s message to Elijah. This narrative encourages us to quiet our surroundings and hearts to truly listen.

Similarly, Samuel’s journey in 1 Samuel 3:1-11 highlights the learning process involved in discerning God’s voice. Initially, Samuel doesn’t recognize who is calling him, mistaking God’s voice for Eli’s. It is only after guidance from Eli that Samuel understands and responds appropriately. Tyler uses this story to emphasize the need for anticipation and humility in hearing God’s call, as well as the value of guidance from more experienced believers.

To help us cultivate a habit of intentional listening, Tyler introduces practical tools like the “HEAR” approach. This method encourages us to make it a habit to listen to the Holy Spirit by choosing a specific time for stillness and devotion. Psalm 46:10 urges us to “Be still and know that I am God,” reminding us that creating dedicated space for reflection is crucial. Tyler advises us to create an atmosphere conducive to focus, engage in conversational prayer, and maintain an ongoing dialogue with God beyond our devotional times.

Expecting to hear the Holy Spirit in whatever way He chooses to speak is another crucial aspect Tyler discusses. He reminds us that the Holy Spirit can speak through anyone or anything at any time. This openness requires faith and the willingness to anticipate growth in our ability to discern His voice. Tyler encourages us to respond in humble obedience when we recognize God’s voice, emphasizing that obedience strengthens our relationship with Him.

Tyler doesn’t shy away from addressing the challenges we face in hearing God’s voice. He outlines several hindrances, such as unrepented sin, pride, busyness, distractions, unresolved conflict, unforgiveness, lack of faith, and lack of effort. By identifying these barriers, we can take active steps to remove them from our lives. Tyler emphasizes that if we want to hear God’s voice, we must be intentional about creating the right environment and mindset.

He also warns us to be aware of voices that are not from God. Our flesh often opposes God’s will, and Satan continually attempts to deceive us with lies. Tyler points out that Satan’s voice condemns and accuses, aiming to remind us of past failures, scream at us through present circumstances, and terrify us about the future. James 4:7 advises us to submit to God and resist the devil, promising that he will flee from us. Understanding the characteristics of God’s voice versus the enemy’s is vital in discerning truth.

To ensure we are hearing from God, Tyler suggests several steps: looking at scripture as the ultimate authority, seeking godly counsel, assessing whether we experience peace or torment, considering the impact on others, and discerning the timing of the message. Importantly, God will never ask us to sin, and His guidance will always align with His character and bring glory to Him.

As Tyler wraps up his message, he invites us to embrace the habit of intentional listening and discover the profound joy of responding to God’s call. He reassures us of God’s enduring love and guidance, even when His voice seems distant. By fostering a deeper connection with the divine, we allow His unconditional love to guide us through life’s challenges and triumphs.

This message is a powerful reminder that hearing God’s voice is not reserved for a select few but is accessible to all who seek Him earnestly. Tyler’s insights and practical advice offer a roadmap for anyone longing to deepen their relationship with God. By making intentional changes in our daily routines, removing barriers, and cultivating an open heart, we can tune into the divine frequency and experience the transformative power of His guidance.

We encourage you to reflect on Tyler’s message and consider how you can apply these principles in your own life. Create that dedicated space for stillness, engage with scripture, seek godly counsel, and be open to the myriad ways God may choose to speak to you. Remember, He desires a personal relationship with you, and His voice is waiting to be heard. Embrace the journey of listening intentionally, and you may find yourself encountering God in ways you never imagined.
