Triad Overview
We are so grateful for the response of so many who want to be involved in serious and intentional disciple-making. We encourage you to form a triad based on the natural relationships the Lord seems to put together around you.
A triad is a group of three people of the same gender who meet regularly together. They study scripture and discipleship materials to grow in their knowledge, character, and skills. It is not a rule that there must only be three people, but we have found that three is a good number for interaction, mutual encouragement, and accountability.

Resources For Triads
Although there are many materials available, not all of them have the perspective of being grace-based, spirit-empowerment, and outward-focused. Below we have listed some recommended materials that we know by experience will help.
GENERAL DISCIPLESHIP:
The Gospel For Real Life – Jerry Bridges
The gospel provides for our eternal salvation, but how does it benefit us day today? Find out how the gospel sets you free from sin’s defeat and daily transforms you into Christlikeness.
Knowing God – J. I. Packer
A lifelong pursuit of knowing God’s character and nature should be every Christian’s desire. In this Christian classic, each chapter gives specific focus to a new, major theological topic. The book as a whole will broaden and change the way you see God, and gives a deeper perspective on the theological truths of our faith.
Grace Plus Nothing – Jeff Harkin
Join the ever-increasing army of Christians who are learning to relate to God on the biblical basis of grace alone. Find out how the grace of God imparts godly character to you and in you, day after day. Find out how and why legalism imparts only ungodliness. Grace Plus Nothing is in a devotional format and is filled with Scripture and practical examples. All while leading to the conclusion that godly character comes about through grace alone.
For Truth’s Sake: Restoring a Passion for Truth to the People of God – Neil Silverberg
Passion for God must include a passion for truth as well! For Truth’s Sake is a passionate plea for a restoration of biblical authority in the church today. This book balances the theology that fuels a passion for truth with practical guidelines for the maintenance of spiritual passion in our lives.
Praying the Bible – Donald Whitney
All Christians know they should pray, but sometimes it’s hard to know how. Especially if the minutes drag on and our minds start to wander. This book offers readers hope, encouragement, and the practical advice they’re looking for. Professor Donald Whitney outlines a simple, time-tested method that can help transform our prayer lives: praying the words of the Bible. Praying the Bible shows readers how to pray through portions of Scripture one line at a time, helping us stay focused by allowing God’s Word itself to direct our thoughts and words.
Justification and Regeneration – Charles Leiter
These two great miracles lie at the very heart of the gospel, yet even among genuine Christians, they are surrounded by confusion and ignorance. This book outlines the nature and characteristics of justification and regeneration that God may be glorified and that His children brought to know more fully the liberty that is theirs in Christ. Be careful; this one might set you free!
Ordering Your Private World – Gordon McDonald
We tend to believe that the busy, publicly active person in ministry is the most spiritual, but what about organizing the other side, our private, spiritual lives? This book has helped many Christians maintain health in their mental and spiritual worlds, creating a perspective that helps us run the race to the finish.
Instruments in the Hands of a Redeemer – Paul David Tripp
If you followed the Lord for a thousand years, you would still need the ministry of the body of Christ as much as you did the day you first believed. This need will remain until our sanctification is complete in Glory. This is a comprehensive treatment of how God uses people as tools of change in the lives of others, people who themselves need change. It helps you understand that God wants to use even you to help others.
Beginners Guide to Spiritual Gifts – Sam Storms
Your gifts reveal God’s presence and power. Discover the purpose of spiritual gifts in the church, and learn how to identify your special mix of gifting and use your gifts for His glory!
FOR WOMEN:
Because He Loves Me: How Christ Transforms Our Daily Life – Elyse Fitzpatrick
God’s love has the power to change lives. Christians, then, should exhibit the greatest transformation of all because, rightly understood and cherished, God’s love makes them increasingly more like the One who has lavished his love on them. Biblical counselor Elyse M. Fitzpatrick asks one simple question: “In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?” We need to be rescued from our “identity amnesia” and pointed to our true identity as God’s beloved children—adopted by the Father, united with the Son, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out and Lonely – Lysa Terkeurst
The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than. When we allow him to speak lies through our rejection, he blinds us to the beauty of Christ’s powerful love. Lysa helps readers:
- Release the desire to fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process their hurt.
- Overcome the two core fears that feed our insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging.
- Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady their soul and restore their confidence.
Grace for the Good Girl – Emily Freeman
Many of us believe that we are saved by grace–but for too many, that’s the last time grace defines our life. Instead of clinging to grace, we strive for good and believe that the Christian life means hard work and a sweet disposition. In Grace for the Good Girl, Emily Freeman invites women to let go of the try-hard life and realize that in Christ, we are free to receive from him rather than constantly try to achieve for him.
Let Me Be A Woman – Elisabeth Elliot
“In order to learn what it means to be a woman, we must start with the One who made her.” Working from Scripture, well-known speaker and author Elisabeth Elliot shares her observations and experiences in several essays on what it means to be a Christian woman, whether single, married, or widowed.
FOR MEN:
The Measure of a Man: Twenty Attributes of a Godly Man – Gene Getz
True masculinity is not measured by the strength of a man but by these twenty biblical guidelines drawn from the Apostle Paul’s letters to his young protégés Timothy and Titus. Inspiring, encouraging, and practical, this book shows men how to reach God’s standards as fathers, husbands, and mentors to other men.
The Measure of a Young Man: Become the Man God Wants You To Be – Gene Getz, Kenton Getz
This book is similar to “The Measure of a Man” but is applied to teenagers.
